Pilates for Every Body is unique in that the studio itself specializes in private sessions only. This allows each guest the personalized, individual attention they deserve. The Pilates method develops total engagement of body, mind and spirit working in unison to strengthen the “powerhouse”. (term used by Joseph Pilates to describe the core muscles of the body) More and more people are suffering the effects of bone & joint damage, back pain, foot issues, pelvic floor weaknesses, scoliosis, and seeing first-hand what traumatic injuries and chronic pain can do to limit their quality of life. Pilates is the silver lining to these cloudy body issues and with time and practice will have a positive result that brings newfound hope and joy back into life.
Too often people focus on the lack of ability to do things because of injuries. Pilates is a “glass half full” workout because we focus on what we can do and work around the injury allowing the strong, healthy parts of our bodies to help us achieve the strength, balance and pain-free life we all deserve. The attention to your individual needs is best realized in a private setting!

The Pilates method can benefit everyone regardless of age or fitness level simply because of its adaptability to the specific needs and modifications necessary for each client. Practicing only 3 times weekly is enough to feel and see the beneficial effects on your body and to begin to understand how to integrate the work into your daily life activities and movement. Old patterns and compensatory changes due to faulty bio-mechanics become obsolete as alignment in the body improves. This mastery of posture improves breathing, strength, flexibilty, endurance and self-image and quickly translates into all aspects of life.
Joseph Pilates (1880-1967) spent his life teaching and sharing his brilliant “art of Contrology” exercises. The quotes below give a vivid example of his ideals & opinions and convey the importance of individual practice to achieve mastery:
“If your spine is inflexibly stiff at 30, you are old. IF it is completely flexible at 60, you are young.”
“Physical fitness can neither be achieved by wishful thinking nor outright purchase.”
“Change happens through movement and movement heals.”
“You will feel better in ten sessions, look better in twenty sessions, and have a completely new body in thirty sessions.”
“The mind, when housed within a healthful body, possesses a glorious sense of power.”
“The acquirement and enjoyment of physical well-being, mental calm and spiritual peace are priceless to their possessors…”
“I must be right. Never an aspirin. Never injured a day in my life. The whole country, the whole world, should be doing my exercises. They’d be happier.”
“Physical fitness is the first requisite to happiness. Our interpretation of physical fitness is the attainment and maintenance of a uniformly developed body with a sound mind fully capable of naturally, easily, and satisfactorily performing out many and varied daily tasks with spontaneous zest and pleasure.”
“When all your muscles are properly developed, you will, as a matter of course, perform your work with minimum effort and maximum pleasure.”
As you can see, Joseph Pilates was as passionate about his work as he was brilliant in its’ conception. Personally speaking, Penelope Shure has experienced over and over the benefits of the Pilates method in her own body as well as in the bodies of the people she has taught in her close to 20 years of practice and teaching. She is equally passionate and profoundly grateful to carry on this work.
